Dr Afrina Alam
Dr Alam qualified in medicine from Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School with the award of the hospital Gold Medal and distinctions in Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She has further been awarded prizes in Thoracic Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She trained in general medicine at The Royal Brompton Hospital, Imperial College and St. George’s Hospital. She carried out Dermatology specialist training at St. John’s Institute of Dermatology, Chelsea & Westminster and Imperial College, London.
Her postgraduate research is in the genetics of skin conditions and her work has been awarded prizes by the Royal College of Physicians, the Skin Investigation Society and the British Association of Dermatology including the annual trophy and prize. Dr Alam has publications in several high impact factor medical journals, for example, Nature Genetics.
Dr Alam practices as Consultant Dermatologist at West Middlesex University Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London. She also carries out joint specialist clinics in inherited skin cancer syndromes at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
As well as enjoying clinical practice in adult, paediatric and cancer dermatology, she is the hospital lead for medical student teaching and has been awarded a commendation for teaching excellence. She also acts as clinical editor of a quarterly scientific journal, Current Medical Literature in Dermatology.
